How to Talk Like a Pirate

Some sailing blogs are pointing out that today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. So, as a public service, here is a short educational film to help you enjoy the day.

Oh, I would love to get the video. Alas, I'm on a dialup connection that, roughly, takes an hour for every minute of video, and a minute for every second. In the past, I've skirted it by using the broadband connection at work, but YouTube has now been expressly forbidden, and The Powers That Be have invoked protections on the computers to prevent us from any such access, not just to YouTube, but also to just about anything that eats up bandwidth.

Right now, I'm fighting against the administrators who say I must not use any email system other than the centralized campus email system that uses MS Outlook.

I hate Outlook. It does almost nothing to get rid of spam. It's not anywhere near as easy to understand as my current ISP's email system. It enables my employer to spy on me -- which is probably why my employer wants me to switch to it.

At least TPTB can't argue that my ISP eats up bandwidth, since it doesn't. Right now, they haven't found a lever that they can use to force me into their system. I pray that they never do.

Yo-Ho,Cap'n Tillerm'n! *she says using gruff rum-infused intonation as specified in Section A*

Arrr, 'tis a fine post! Thank-ye!

ps(Carol Anne, I feel your pain. Even though I have a high-speed modem, YouTube videos come through in pieces for me too...so much for my expensive but useless new connection; might as well be using dial-up.)
